Healing Work

What is therapy like with me?  I believe it is important to be in a setting that feels safe and interactive, where you may confront challenging topics and deep-seated trauma without fear of judgment.  A client working with me will have the ability to move at their own pace and decide which therapeutic approach works best for them.  I give clients the freedom to be themselves and enable their recovery path to be tailored to their specific needs.

My impacting identities… I am an African American heterosexual female with various identities, including therapist, daughter, activist, and student.  I understand that my ethnicity and skin tone might be comforting to some and threatening to others.  I believe that no matter what color or ethnic background an individual comes from, it does not reduce the hardships and anguish they have experienced.

I work best with clients who… Are unclear about what they are feeling, stuck identifying the source of maladaptive patterns of behavior, or want to explore previously discovered areas in need of healing.  I offer compassionate, nonjudgmental guidance, and work effectively with clients who are flexible with change.

I am a unique therapist because… I enjoy working with a diverse range of people of varied ages and cultural origins. I support children, adolescents, and adults, using a client-centered approach and a variety of therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Empowerment.   I assist my clients through anxiety, depression, behavioral challenges, grief, loss, abuse, and trauma from a strength-based perspective, in which the client and therapist collaborate to develop strategies that work for the individual. Ultimately, I utilize  both clinical expertise and life experience to provide my clients with a well-rounded perspective on their therapeutic journey.

Learning And Growing

I keep educated by enrolling in continuing education classes and networking within my specialty field to obtain more strategies, tools, approaches, and knowledge to be better informed and incorporate it into my practice for the best benefit of my clients’.
