Joia Felton is a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) in the state of Maryland. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Kenyon College and her Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Johns Hopkins University. Her mental health background includes private practice, crisis stabilization, and counseling undergraduate students.
Joia welcomes clients from all walks of life. She has experience working with clients struggling with life transitions, familial conflict, anxiety, depression, substance use, self-harm, inner critics, eating disorders, identity development, and relationship issues. Joia utilizes a person-centered approach; she strives to foster open and caring relationships with all of her clients and recognizes that the relationship between client and therapist is one of the greatest factors in the client’s well-being and progress. She puts the client’s goals and needs at the center of her work.
She enjoys guiding clients in developing coping skills to better manage stress and aids clients in identifying and interrupting dysfunctional thoughts and maladaptive patterns of behavior. Joia is warm, authentic, and empathetic. She believes that given the environment to do so, we can grow into the best versions of ourselves and fulfill our greatest potential, and she seeks to provide that climate for her clients. In her free time, Joia loves cooking, listening to podcasts, practicing yoga, and relaxing with her cats. Joia is supervised by Christine Coyle, LCSW-C.
